i used to love making my own media.
nothing fancy:

1/3 stand oil
1/3 turpenoids any kine
1/3 damar varnish (which i liked making from damar crystals in a sock drenched with turpentine or turp alternative for a couple of days)

couple of drops of japan dryer to taste, this was the creative (dangerous) part...

i used to really like making this media recipe i got from an old teacher o mine. and then i would coat the oil painting with it, and only a slight amount of paint, so it'd be transparent and translucent, let it dry and repeat the process over and over again so it would build up in clear layers and light would play through it. =)

i miss the smell of it.

any of you make your own media? share recipes! after all, they're not your gramma's cookies!
